Thank You, Veterans! Veteran’s Day in my house was always a big deal growing up. While we got ready for school, Dad would get gussied up in his full dress uniform to attend Veteran’s Day activities with the local VFW. We would attend the town parade and I would wait anxiously to pick my Dad out from the crowd of marching Vets. He would always buy a bunch of buddy poppies to pass out and made sure everyone had one. He attended decades of funerals as Honor Guard. He helped... with fundraising. He even organized a search for former Vietnam Platoon members in hopes to reconnect everyone later in life. And that’s how Dad lived his life. He was always connecting others with the right resources when in need. He loved to celebrate and get people together for a drink and a laugh. He loved to tell stories and hash out memories, the good and the bad. He kept going. Kept Working. Kept fighting. He was proud of his military service, and he continued to serve others until he just couldn’t anymore. While much darkness is born from active duty and War, today, I am remembering unity, freedom, community & perseverance. Support your local VFW if you can. Buy a buddy poppy. Thank a Vet.
