A lot of us are experiencing Burnout these days, its at an all time high. We bare a lot on our shoulders as we play different roles everyday, parent, spouse, em...ployee, employer, teacher, caretaker...the list goes on..then throw a Pandemic in the mix! This is a recipe for disaster if we do not have a way to cope and deal with our stress. We were designed to sustain short term stress, its when our bodies and minds endure stress long term is when it becomes detrimental to our over all health. Your body may be sending you this message via back or neck pain, sinus problems, colds...or maybe worse. These are clues that we need to take a step back. The body holds onto unresolved emotions and stress. Often times we say that we "don't have time" to deal with our problems or emotions at hand, but in the big picture it alleviates needless suffering. Here are seven ways to get through a stress cycle! 1) Physical Activity~ taking a 20 min walk or stretching your body at the very least. This releases endorphins in the body that help you feel good. 2) Breathing~ Breathing down regulates the fight or flight response in your Central Nervous System as little as 2 minutes. Breathing in to the count of 5, hold to the count of 5 and exhale fully until you feel your abdominals contract ( at least to the count of 7). 3) Positive Social interaction~ Acts of kindness onto others or give someone a compliment. They will feel good to that person and it will make you feel good too! 4) Laughter~ A good genuine laugh! 5) Affection~ A warm hug that last at least 20 seconds helps to turn off the stress response, decrease blood pressure and heart rate because this helps your body feel safe. 6) A good cry~ this helps us process our feelings, as you cry try not to think about "why" you are crying, but work through what emotion your feeling. 7) Creative Expression~ Funnel your anger, stress or emotions into something creative or a hobby. Like knitting, coloring or drawing to name a few. We can't control the stressors in our lives but we can control our response to them and now you have some tools to get through the stress response. In order experience a difference life, a life we love to wake up to everyday, we have to think a different way and do different things. No better time then the present time.
